I. OBJECTIVES:

1. Aims: At the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

  • Learn vocab. about the home safety and understand the safety precautions in their home.
  • Use “Have to/Must” to talk about their home safety.

2. Knowlege:

*Vocab: chemicals, medicine, match, injure electrical socket, dangrous objects

3. Skills: Reading, speaking, listening & writing

II. PREPARATION:

1. Teacher: Lesson plan, Textbook, tape, cassette.

2. Students:

  • Textbook, notebook.
  • Vocabulary: chemicals, medicine, match, injure electrical socket, dangrous objects

III. PROCEDURES:

1. Revision: (5’) Brainstorming

(T asks Ss to work in groups to list them out)

*) Lead-in:

- Uses the Brainstorming: There are many dangerous things for children in the house, so what do you have to do or not to make the children safety?

- Introduces the lesson.

I. PRE-READING: (12’)

1. Vocabulary

- Elicits the words from the Ss & says them.

- Writes and checks.

+ chemicals (n) (Exa.)

+ medicine (n) (Realia)

+ (a) match (n) (Realia)

+ (to) injure (Trans)

+ (an) electrical socket (Realia)

+ (the) dangrous objects (Exam.)

- Instructs Ss to read.

- Uses “Matching” to check vocab.

2. T/F statement predictions

- Hangs on the statements on page 31 and notices Ss with: suitable, star a fire,dangerous,

- Gives the worksheets and asks Ss to predict them T/F.

- Gets feedback.

II. WHILE-READING: (18’)

1. Checking predictions:

- Asks Ss to read the text to check their predictions.

- Gets feedback.

2. Comprehension questions:

- Asks Ss to read through the Qs and elicits the way to use: Why ....? Because......

- Notes Ss with: Must and have to.

- Asks Ss to read the text again to answer the questions.

- Gets feedback and writes their answer on the board.

* Answer key: (Questions on P. 32)

b, Because the kitchen is a dangerous place.

c, Because playing with the matches can cause a fire.

d, Because children cannot put anything into electrical sockets........

e, Because they can injure or kill children.

III. POST-READING: (8’) Brainstorm

- Asks Ss to work in groups to list out their ideas to make children safety at home.

- Gets feedback and gives comments.

Examples:

We mustn’t:

+ put anything into the electrical sockets.

+ drink or eat chemicals and drugs.

+ play with matches.

We must/ have to:

+ put danerous objects in locked cupboard.

+ cover electrical socket.

+ keep all dangerous objects out of children/s reach.

- Listen to teacher and answer.

- Try out & repeat chorally-individually.

- Give the meaning & the stress.

- Run through the words.

- Share their ideas in pairs and match the words with the Vietnamese meaning.

- Read through the statements.

- Work in groups to write their prediction on the worksheets.

- Stick their answers on the B.B.

- Read it in 5 minutes & pick out the information, share their ideas in pairs

- Give their answers and correct the False statements.

IV. HOMEWORK: (2’)

  • Asks Ss to write the safety precautions at home.
  • Asks Ss to prepare: Write - P.32,33
  • Vocabulary: wardrobe, lighting fixture, towel rack, jar, beneath
