I. OBJECTIVES:

1. Aims: At the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to revise the use of :

  • “So as to/ in order to”
  • Requests, offers and promises.

2. Knowlege:

* Vocabulary: Review

* Grammar:

  • “So as to/ in order to”
  • Requests, offers and promises.

3. Skills: Writing and reading.

II. PREPARATION:

1. Teacher: Lesson plan, posters.

2. Students:

  • “So as to/ in order to”
  • Requests, offers and promises.

III. PROCEDURES:

1. Warmer: Asks Ss to list grammar points they have learnt in unit 9, 10, 11.

2. New lesson:

Ss/ activities

I. “In order to/ So as to”:

- Asks Ss to give out the meaning of “in order to/ so as to”.

- Give out an example and asks Ss to combine the sentences.

Ex: The children get up early. They want to do morning exercises.

- Gives out the answer and consolidates the knowledge.

- Asks Ss to combine the given sentences to make compound sentences using “in order to/ so as to”.

1. My brother is learning English. He can to get a good job.

2. We turn out the lights. We didn’t want to waste electricity.

3. My father drove carefully. He didn’t want to cause accidents.

- Calls on some Ss go to the board and write the answer.

- Checks Ss’ answer and gives out the correct answer.

II. Requests, offers and promises:

- Asks Ss to list the way to make requests, offers and promises and responses.

- Consolidates the knowledge and gives out some examples.

Ex: a) - Could you open the door, please?

- Sure./ I’m sorry, I can’t.

b) - Can I get you some tea?

- Yes, please./ No, thank you.

c) - I promise I will come to school on time.

- I hope so.

d) - Would you mind if I sat down?

- No, I don’t mind./ I prefer you didn’t.

- Asks Ss to do the exercise:

Make requests, offers and promises:

1. Open your book, please.

-> Will you………………………….?

2. Do you want me to drive?

-> Shall ……………………………..?

3. I want you to help me carry my bags.

-> Can ………………………………?

4. We are willing to drive you to the air port.

-> We’ll………………………………

5. Where is the nearest post office?

-> Could you…………………………?

6. Can you take me a photograph?

-> Would you mind…………………..?

7. Can I use your bike?

-> Do you mind………………………?

-> Would you mind…………………..?

- Answer T’s questions.

- Combine the sentences.

The children get up early so as to do morning exercises.

- Listen and write down.

- Work individually.

- Write the answer on the board.

- Check the answer with teacher.

- Answer T’s questions.

- Work individually to do the exercise.

- Change the answer in pairs.

IV. HOMEWORK:

Asks Ss to revise passive form, adjectives followed by an infinitive and a noun clause, present and past participles.
